Estuary on Film

The Estuary on Film commission was a regional talent development opportunity delivered by Screen South in partnership with Creative Estuary which co-commissioned 4 short films to be made in the Thames Estuary area. This partnership reflected the connections being made with the Estuary’s growth as a creative production corridor. The commissions offered emerging and existing filmmakers, based in the Estuary region, the opportunity to make a short film which presents unique stories and diverse perspectives.

We are so excited that these four short films will be available to view at Gravesham Fringe:

Ceremony by Charlie Tidmas

A trans man is hunted by a pack of men, to what end?

The Red Ball by George Morgan

A grief- stricken family migrate from busy London to suburban Basildon looking for a fresh start, but young Bamike is not ready to move on.

Essex Girls by Yero Timi-Biu and Busayo Ige

Flipping the “Essex Girl” trope, this coming-of-age film explores Black British girlhood and magical female friendships in 2009 Essex.

Halfway Between the Land and Sea by Vickie Donoghue and Natalie Mitchell

Unworldy Shaun has never left Essex before. But when an unexpected trip on the Gravesend- Tilbury ferry opens up his perspective, he begins to see more clearly where he’s from, and more importantly, where he could go.

Prior to the 4 films screening, local arts organisation Blueprint Arts will be showing a short film recently made by local young people.

Following the films, there will be a Q&A opportunity. This is a FREE event!
