Gyrus & The Forest
With the government promising a full lift in restrictions, Naked Frank Theatre touch base on the bitter sting of the most challenging global experience in modern history, and reflect on the devastating impact that it has had world wide on mental health by converting their live show Gyrus & The Forest, into a sight specific theatre performance captured on film. Naked Frank Theatre have been streaming the production, set in Ashenden Wood, to local mental health services and forensic facilities in Kent and are delighted to bring the piece to Gravesham Fringe to raise donations for MQ Research Mental Health Charity.
Written by Carleigh-Ann Portelli, Naked Frank Theatre invite audiences to follow Maria, as she journeys deep into the forest and learns to cope with life in the aftermath of a global pandemic. It’s nearly summer, but not everything is as simple as “let’s get back to the new normal”. This whirlwind tale of creatures great and small, challenges audiences to re-assess what it is to celebrate life again in the wake of COVID-19. Set in a beautifully enchanting forest, this mystical fable told by adults, for adults, is not children’s theatre and definitely not a fairytale. It’s a chance for “big kids” to lose themselves in the wilderness and recuperate after the last fourteen months.
“The one thing that unites us is that we’re all going through it. Optimism tells us to look forward to the future. But sometimes the only way forward is to take a long, hard, reflective look back!” – Carleigh-Ann Portelli, Writer & Director.
